The raising of Lazarus takes center stage in Bethany, a small town near Jerusalem. The witnesses to this event will, ironically, become the catalyst by which the death of Jesus becomes an inevitability.
This is the seventh “sign” in the Gospel of John. Since lots of things tend to happen “sevens” in this book, we’ll talk about whether there is any significance to the number. We’ll also discuss what the writer(s) of the book might have meant when they talk about “believing in Jesus” (hint: “believing” means a lot more than just acknowledging who Jesus is).
